When my friends over at Cricut asked to partner up with me for some fun homemade educational projects, I couldn’t say no. I LOVE creating crafts and activities for my two toddlers with my Cricut Explore Air 2. And now that I will be homeschooling them, I am constantly looking for more educational activities and projects that they’ll love! Today I’m showing you how to make your own homemade alphabet blocks. With this alphabet block activity, I built on my kids’ current knowledge of the alphabet and connected them into something they both love to play with…blocks!
Here’s what you’ll need to complete this project:
Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore cutting machine
StandardGrip Machine Mat – 12″ x 12″
Step-By-Step Instructions:
- Place vinyl (liner side down) onto Cricut StandardGrip cutting mat.
- Select images and size and load the mat into the machine. I used these images and letters from the Cricut Design Space.
- Press CUT.
- Remove the cut vinyl pieces.
5. Carefully place the vinyl images onto your wooden blocks.
Alphabet blocks are are important for early literacy and for practicing those fine motor skills. They’re a fun tool for learning the ABC’s in an engaging and hands-on way. They are really an awesome learning tool AND toy! One activity you can do using the alphabet blocks is to have your child identify the letter on the side of the block. You can talk about the letter each picture starts with. You can also identify the letter first and then talk about things that begin with that same letter. I also labeled my blocks with Spanish words. We speak English, Spanish, and Japanese in our household. What better way to reinforce the value of bilingualism in our home!
I’d love for you to tag me @sailingintosecond in your Cricut projects!
