School Supplies You’ll Run Out of Every Year

As an elementary teacher, I am constantly buying supplies for my own classroom. Sometimes, I have generous parents that make donations. They’ll often ask at the beginning of the year what we need the most of. It’s super helpful to have a list on hand to share with parents of the school supplies you’ll run out of every year. Some of them may surprise you!

Pencils

Elementary kids will go through so many pencils during the school year. I try to stock up on Ticonderoga pencils. They last so much longer than the regular store brand pencils, and they stay super sharp. They’re perfect for all the writing practice you’ll do in early elementary.

Glue Sticks

With all the crafts and hands-on activities we do in elementary, my students go through glue sticks in record time. We prefer using glue sticks as opposed to sticky Elmer’s liquid glue. It saves on dry time, and there’s less messy fingers and desks. Look for glue sticks labeled washable for easy clean up.

Binders

Because I use so many printables and graphic organizers with my students, it’s easier to have them put their work in binders to keep organized. Small binders allow my students to show growth through the year in handwriting and more!

Crayons

Investing in a classroom box of Crayola crayons makes a huge difference. No matter how hard they try, your students are bound to break or run down their crayons. We use colors so much in the classroom for everything from back to school decorations to reading activities! I always choose Crayola crayons because they last so much longer.

Kleenex

They may not be a “school supply”, but stuffy noses last year round. Tissues are one of the first items that I run low on if I don’t ask parents at the start of the year. If you are able to send home a school supply list, put this item at the top. Some schools provide some tissues for your classroom, but they are rarely the soft Kleenex that help keep your nose (and your kids’) feeling fine!

It’s good to check out low prices online or scour the back to school ads to stock up and save for your own classroom to have what you need from the start of fall to the beginning of summer vacation!
