These FREE and ready-to-share completely paperless activities are perfect to upload to your favorite online learning platform! Use it with Google Classroom, Microsoft One Drive, Seesaw, or even Pic Collage on any device.
Share a spelling list.
Start your word work by sharing a digital spelling list! Type the spelling patterns and the words you are assigning on the editable slides template. When you’re ready to assign the list, you can just make a copy of the slides and just keep and assign the slides you want the students to work on at that time.
Build sentences.
One of the most effective ways to learn spelling words is by using them in a sentence. Have your students use the sentence builder slides to use their word in context in an original sentence. The slides give students places to type the spelling word for practice and create their own original sentence. Model with your students by typing your own sentence to start or sharing examples during a screencast or Google Meet or Zoom session.
Alphabetize spelling words.
Putting spelling words in alphabetical order will help your students remember their word list and their alphabet! It’s rare that students use paper dictionaries to look up words anymore, so alphabetizing is not a skill that’s practiced very often! Have your students put their word list in ABC order to keep this skill going strong! This is another slide included in the spelling and word work digital activities.
Make words colorful!
Have your students type their words in rainbow colors with the spelling and word work digital activities. The repetition of typing the words in various colors will help them remember their spelling list, and it’s fun to use rainbow colors! Using these digital activities will have the added bonus of helping students with their typing skills.
Identify vowels and consonants.
Reviewing vowels and consonant letters is an important part of word work! Have your students count up the number vowels and consonants in each of the spelling words. This slide is included in the spelling and word work digital activities ready-to-share with your learners!
Identify parts of speech.
When assigning spelling words, I like to use various parts of speech. Have your students identify which words from their list are nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. Simply have them type the word and its part of speech in the “Parts of Speech” slide you share to your online learning platform.
Bring in Math!
Incorporate some math into your word work by assigning a value to each letter or group of letters. Then, your students will add up the letter values in each word. For an added bonus, have them determine which word on the “Add ‘Em Up” slide is the most valuable!
These engaging spelling and word work activities are perfect for your digital distance learning classroom.
