PD at sea…need I say more??
Two weeks ago, I had was able to attend the Teach Your Heart Out Conference on a Royal Caribbean Cruise ship! I love attending teacher conferences throughout the school year, but having one on a cruise ship was an experience of a lifetime.
The 2-day conference had one full day of sessions for K-12 educators on Saturday and another day of professional development at an elementary school in Nassau, Bahamas on Sunday.
Day one of the conference was filled with engaging and powerful sessions from some of my favorite teachers! In Michelle’s session for Target Teachers, I learned so many ways to use some of the fun items we find in the Dollar section of Target and turn them into cool manipulatives and games my kids would love! She also gave so many practical classroom management tips for teachers in primary classrooms. It was definitely a helpful session for teachers looking to add new tips and tricks to their teaching styles!
Some of the other sessions I attended were from Teaching and So Fourth’s Bethany Humphrey, Miss 5th’s Brittany Briggs, and Teaching 3rd With Mr. G’s Juan Gonzalez. I loved all of their actionable tips on topics like keeping my readers accountable and starting books talks to things like using music to engage students and creating a classroom community.
I left every single session with great tips and tools to take back with me when the school year resumes.
One of the TYHO presenters, Casey Bethel, had a family connection with the school we visited in Nassau. His aunt was the principal of Sandilands Primary School!
We docked that morning in Nassau, and boarded buses to be dropped off at the school.
We got to tour the school and collaborate with their teachers and staff. It was truly a humbling and heart-warming experience that I will never forget. This was my favorite part of the teacher conference…making an impact on students from another part of the world. We also brought school supplies to the school for kids to use at Sandilands.
Casey and his aunt gave the most inspirational speeches that morning, and reminded me why I am an educator today!
The ship itself was filled with restaurants, activities, pools, and relaxation at every corner! When we weren’t at sessions or TYHO events, I definitely got to relax poolside and enjoy the beautiful Caribbean sun!
I HIGHLY recommend the Teach Your Heart Out Conference for any educator looking to be inspired, motivated, and empowered to help teach their kids! I’ve never been to a conference more inviting with teachers and presenters who were more down to Earth and humble than at this Teach Your Heart Out conference.
They are educator rock stars, but are also super approachable and the kindest teachers out there. I am SO glad I got to attend!
